An excerpt from the essay by StarrJiggetts The question of why people collect is as old as the practice itself. And the individual motives for collecting are as numerous as the theories proposed as answers to this age-old question. The collectors in the MAAAC’s Start of the Art exhibition are new to this space. Everyone featured in the show owns fewer than 30 pieces. And yet, this show is a reflection of what we like, what moves us, and the visual space we’re starting to curate for ourselves.
