About the event

The Museum of African American Art Collections (MAAAC) is proud to announce the opening of our latest exhibition, Tactile: Storytelling through Feel and Texture.

Art is often something we are told not to touch, but this exhibition challenges the boundaries of perception. From the intricate weaves of textile histories to the weathered patinas of sculpture, this exhibit invites you to experience African American heritage through the language of touch and materiality.

We are honored to showcase selected works from the private collections of:

  • Sidney Howe Barksdale

  • The Craig Family Collection

  • Kristin E. Holmes
